Why Joel was written
Using a devastating locust plague as a warning of the coming judgment of God, Joel calls Israel to repentance and promises that those who call on the LORD will be saved — and that God will pour out his Spirit on all flesh.

How Joel points to Christ
Joel 2:28-32 is quoted by Peter at Pentecost as fulfilled by the outpouring of the Holy Spirit on the Day of Pentecost (Acts 2:16-21). 'Everyone who calls on the name of the LORD will be saved' is applied to calling on Christ.
